EGStoltzfus Partners with HDC MidAtlantic and ABC to Create Inclusive Housing for Seniors with Special Needs

EGStoltzfus Commercial Construction recently completed a transformative project in Allentown, PA, delivering 49 affordable senior living apartments through a collaborative partnership with HDC MidAtlantic and Alliance for Building Communities, Inc. (ABC).

The new 1528 West Apartments represents our commitment to creating spaces that serve diverse community needs.

Built on a challenging, narrow lot on West Hamilton Street, the EGS team skillfully maximized the available space to include 35 one-bedroom and 14 two-bedroom units that are designed for seniors 55 and older.

What makes this project significant is its intentional focus on adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Working with the Eastern PA Down Syndrome Center, we incorporated specialized design elements to support independent living while ensuring residents can reach their full potential in a supportive environment.

Thoughtful Apartment Design & Amenities

The 1528 West project included these features:

• Six units that comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) design standards, featuring barrier-free entry
• An expansive community room with a connected kitchen and flex space for gatherings
• Dedicated wellness center promoting healthy living
• Game room for social interaction and recreation
• Covered terrace and roof terrace for outdoor relaxation
• Laundry facilities on each floor
• Secure parking garage with bike racks
• Private storage areas for residents’ belongings

Working with Architectural Concepts PC, our team brought to life a building that balances practicality with comfort. And the property’s strategic location near public transportation, local stores, and restaurants supports residents’ independence and community integration.

1528 West Apartments represents a milestone as HDC’s first community designed to serve adults with disabilities. This aligns perfectly with our expertise in constructing specialized living environments that meet unique community needs.
