Longtime EGS Partner Creates Landis Homes Foundation Walls

Our new independent-living cottage project at Landis Homes is our latest project with our longtime trade partner, Superior Walls.

Superior Walls makes insulated precast concrete foundation walls at its Ephrata facility, currently installing more than four million square feet of walls annually in homes throughout the Northeast.

We were one of its first customers when the company was founded four decades ago, and we have used its products extensively in both commercial and residential projects.

Superior Walls have several outstanding advantages, both for our customers and the construction process itself:

  • Strength, withstanding 5,000 PSI of pressure.
  • Time savings, allowing us to shave days or weeks off the production process, depending on the size of the project. We can start earlier and finish faster.
  • Cost savings, using 30% less concrete than a conventional foundation.
  • Improved energy efficiency with R-11.3 and R-21.3 panels.
  • Waterproofing, its density and strength resisting the hydrostatic pressure on the foundation.
  • Improved air quality, avoiding the mold and other contaminants that can grow in wet environments.
  • Environmental benefits, with its ability to lower energy costs qualifying for the S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star program.

Superior Walls are designed to match the measurements from the architect’s or engineer’s drawings and are manufactured under closely controlled conditions. Because they are manufactured in Superior Walls’ facility and installed in a completed form at our location, there is no excess concrete, forms, or other waste materials. They leave a clean site with no trash or debris.

They have a smoke and fire rating and, as a result, are backed by a 15-year warranty.

A third-party testing service, ICC Evaluation Services has certified Superior Walls for compliance with applicable codes and regulations, including the International Building Code. ICC-ES is an industry leader in evaluating building products, materials, and systems for code compliance.

The company was featured on an episode of “This Old House” several years ago.
