Commercial Construction

A Big “W” for Donut Lovers

How do you completely renovate a donut shop, yet continue to satisfy your customers’ cravings for your tasty products?

After all, once you have people hooked on your donuts, you really can’t stop, can you?

That was the challenge we faced when W Donuts came to us for a complete redo of its popular Akron, PA location.

First opened in 1998 as Weiser’s Market, the shop quickly became known for its tasty baked concoction and has been a go-to donut destination ever since.

New owner Dan Rice wanted to continue the tradition his predecessor Tim Weiser had started, using the same recipe, staff and baking equipment. But the building needed a redo.

Enter EGStoltzfus.

Using a staged approach for this commercial remodeling project, we divided the shop in half so Rice and his team could continue to delight northern Lancaster County donut lovers.

We worked around customers and staff, getting our work done, keeping the donuts coming, and making sure everyone was safe.

On the first half, we built a new and much larger kitchen and serving area. Then, when the bakery and serving counter were in place, we renovated the other half of the building which included the original kitchen/serving area.

Adjacent to the new serving area is “W Donuts Cafe” with lots of natural light, a large fireplace, and indoor seating. It’s the perfect community space to gather with family and friends, catch up on work, or enjoy a solo cup of coffee (and donut, of course!).

There are also private rooms available to rent for community meetings.

A delightful product. A delightful new setting. And a delightful treat for donut lovers far and wide. That’s a “W” all around!
